Coalition for Negative Emissions responds to the UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy

Welcome recognition of the critical role negative emissions technologies
“Today’s Net Zero Strategy is welcome recognition of the critical role negative emissions technologies, including nature-based solutions, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage and direct air capture and storage, will play in delivering jobs, skills and a net zero economy in the UK. We welcome the government’s ambition to deploy 5 MtCO2/yr of negative emissions by 2030 and plans to consult on business models for engineered GGRs in Spring 2022.”
“There is growing consensus from independent experts, including the Climate Change Committee and National infrastructure Commission, that negative emissions are essential to mitigate emissions in hard-to-decarbonise industries. It is critical that the UK Government works with industry to create the right investment framework for projects in the 2020s, which will enable the sustainable scale-up of the industry between now and 2050.”
